Here comes the Light....

The other morning I dashed out of the house before sunup. I had in my mind I wanted to see something in particular.

There is a certain anticipation to leaving the house to see the sunrise, as you know. There is also excitement when I think I’m on the hunt for something special.

So much so, sometimes I can barely comb my hair and spruce myself up before I head out the door. I tell myself that it’s only for a moment..no one will see me.....that I am under the cover of darkness.

Yet, the anticipation and excitement, as I drove along that morning , was quickly fading. I looked here and there for something to take a photo of. A quick snow squall came up so I moved away from the dull greys of winter. The fields were overrun with Canada geese. I snapped some pictures but nothing was stirring my soul. In fact, I was thinking half heartedly about the projects waiting for me back at the house, and how I didn’t have much time to give to creativity that morning.

I wasn’t connecting that morning, I wasn’t fully present.... And then it was in front of me. I had been driving on top of the mountain and the sun was indeed coming up here. I could see the full orange sun just peeking up ever so slightly over a nearby hilltop. But that’s not what stopped me in my tracks. I pulled the car over and jumped out. There was a weather vane (I have collected photos of weather canes for years now).

And it was aglow! I mean AGLOW! Shining so brightly as the sun hit directly on the weathervane —and only the weathervane— at that moment.

What a jolt. You couldn’t not see it!

And in that moment as I scurried to get the photo captured, I was reminded that we are aglow in much the same way too....

We don’t see it ourselves, but we have a beautiful inner glow just waiting for the sun to come up and light us up too.

What is our sun? And when will it touch us for all to see?

You. Me. Each and everyone of us is truly breathtaking beautifully aglow......

And we should celebrate that.

Beautiful image and essay. Too often, I get caught up in chores and miss the obvious "glow" in things around me. It's easy to give up and say there was nothing there. I heard gentle bluebirds this morning! Thanks for this beautiful image and reminder to stop and look and listen. And, by the way, your inner glow comes through beautifully. I can't not see it! 💕
