ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS

I wanted to make sure Santa knows what I want for Christmas…. So this is the letter I wrote him this year….

Dear Santa,

I am writing to let you know that I really want some specific things for Christmas this year and I hope you can find your way to send them my way….

I have been thinking about my friends and this letter is really about them.

You see, they are such an important part of my life and I only want the best for them.

I know that it’s the time of year that we often struggle with our feelings. It’s simply not a happy and joyful time for all of the people I know. It’s pretty tough out there.  And that makes me sad.

I’d love to have you give them a little boost this year. To let them know they aren’t alone. That they are with us, in our hearts and in our thoughts.

Yep..It’s a tall order. But I know that the spirit of  Santa Claus is strong…and I have seen you work your miracles in so many ways.

I saw you take that handmade letter the other night from that developmentally disabled adult. You smiled and gave her that twinkle only you can do…I saw it. And I saw her reaction. It was a special moment.

I saw your face when the child that was on your lap whispered her wishes so quietly that your brow furrowed just a bit when you listened so intently to her.  And I saw her face as she felt your attention and love in that moment.

I’ve seen you tear up with emotion in the briefest of moments. I’ve seen you recover with your jolly “Ho, Ho, Ho…” After all, Santa shouldn’t be sharing a cry with the rest of us.

But why not? After all, what you specialize in is always “being present” to the moment….letting people know you care.

What I see is that you are good at letting people know just how important they are. And there sure are a lot of people out there who need to know that.  Somehow, we aren’t very good at showing others how much they are loved. Maybe its because we don’t have a lot of extra love to give. I know…I understand…

I ask you to touch our hearts this Christmas. To give us a little of you to share with others.

I don’t think it always has to be “ho-ho-ho” moments….But being present for others is the key for all of us. Letting them feel that they are important to us is a gift  you could give us to share.

I know for sure  that my friends are important in my life. I can’t thank them enough for the little (and big) things they do for me. When I am blue, they are there. When I am happy, they are there. And I can’t say thank you enough to them. They keep me going.

And that’s what I want to Christmas this year. Can we find even just a smidgen of that kindness towards others in our hearts…now…today…this moment….this Christmas?

Now that would make my Christmas wish complete. In the meantime…thank you Santa. (And a big thank you my friends…YOU keep me going….)
